Beyond the Villa: Beaches Around Peninsula Papagayo

Volcanic hills and coastline near Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste

The Gulf of Papagayo is defined by its coastline: rounded headlands, sheltered bays, long views over the Pacific and beaches with very different personalities. Part of the pleasure of staying on the peninsula is having the time to discover more than one stretch of sand.

Begin close to the peninsula

The Papagayo area has a variety of beaches, from tucked-away coves to broad sandy shores. Beach access can depend on your villa, the amenities you wish to use and the route you choose. Ask our concierge before setting out, especially if you plan to visit a beach club or resort facility; separate fees and reservations may apply.

Playa Hermosa: room to unwind

Playa Hermosa is one of Guanacaste’s familiar Pacific beach destinations, with a broad waterfront and places to stop for food. It is a pleasant option when you want a change of scenery beyond the villa. Conditions on the water can change, so check locally before swimming or arranging watersports.

Playas del Coco: a livelier coastal stop

If your party wants a busier beach-town atmosphere, Playas del Coco has restaurants, shops and boat operators. It can work well as the starting point for a boat outing or a relaxed meal after time on the water. Your driver or concierge can help you plan the route and find the experience that matches your group.

Let your beach day unfold naturally

Pack sun protection, water and footwear suited to walking between the car and the shore. Beach shade and conditions vary, and a local guide can advise on which spot suits children, a quiet afternoon or an active day. Returning to your private pool for sunset can be the ideal end to the adventure.
